new sig and old habits

Okay, with two weeks and counting until I return to school, I suppose this is all of the messing around I'll do with my blog for quite a while. Kirkley has been working on switching to one nap the past week or so which has been a painful one hour resulting in a cranky girl late afternoon who is ready to go to bed very early. Over the weekend, the nap finally stretched out to around a more normal two hours, but of course today she's not feeling great and has taken two naps. I get more done, but I also feel like we took a step backward on the new schedule. Can't tell if she has a runny nose from teething or if she's got a full blown cold {which we've somehow avoided this summer even with her at school periodically}, but she's sound asleep for nap #2 {despite frequent coughing}. Just when I think I have things figured out...

Other big goals of the summer that have yet to be achieved: zero bottles and no more pacifier at nap/bed times. She only gets a bottle when she wakes up in the morning. I like that she gets an immediate 6-8 oz milk in her, and we don't have to worry as much the rest of the day if she's getting enough milk. I thought this would be an easy drop, but I forgot to give it to her one day last week, and she had a meltdown on the changing table. I guess she wakes up starving?? We just need to get breakfast going faster and she'll probably forget it. We'll try that tomorrow.

And all of the books say there's no need for a pacifier past around 6 months for soothing needs. At 15 months, we're just a tad past that! :) I'm glad she's just using it in bed -- I'd certainly be freaking out about language development otherwise. She even takes it out when I get her up and drops it in her bed when we get her up. We've also tried taking this away resulting in major, long meltdowns. Alex and I are good at toughing things out -- I can't believe we haven't broken her of this stuff! Yes, we tried cutting the end off, etc. Long meltdowns...we can handle some crying but not long long periods of it. So here we are two weeks out with two goals left -- any ideas? Walking was definitely a goal so we can check that off the list!!!

If you figure out how to get rid of the paci let me know! Mackenzie cannot sleep without hers, I haven't found a way around that yet. Having a baby is never easy is it:)

do what you can to get rid of paci soon, because the addiction only gets stronger with age. as for bottles, i think it is okay to keep it up with at least one a day for a while longer. we had cut down to one at night, but he has been demanding a bottle in the morning when i try to hand him a sippy cup. not sure why that is....

Annabelle has dropped the bottle this summer. I dropped the night one last and did it by keeping her out late and her falling asleep in the car. Maybe you could try doing something that Kirkley really loves during the time of the a.m bottle and see if that keeps her mind off of it? As for the paci? AB has never taken one, BUT she is a thumb sucker during sleep. Know how to break that one???Good Luck!

Holly! I'm totally opposite what everyone else has said. Let her keep the paci in the bed - especially if it's only in the bed!!! Do you know how many 3 yr olds there are out there with paci's all the time?!? Let that poor thing keep her crib paci! AND - get rid of that bottle!!! give her a sippy cup of milk in the morning and roll with it. Then come and talk to me when she stops taking a nap! I'll feel sorry for you then!

you know i love you and can say these things, b/c you are my dear friend.

LOVE honesty!!!! I packed up all of the bottles early this morning before she woke up. They are all gone and put away!! She was fine with a sippy cup -- we just went straight to breakfast because I feel like she is SO hungry! So done with bottles!! Any more paci ideas????

I give mine sippy cups of milk and carnation instant breakfast right when they wake up (they love it!)

As for the paci, I had Cadence evaluated for speech at 16 months and the developmental person I talked to said to let her have it until she no longer needed it. We confined it to the bed, and she was okay with that. She has just given it up and is 3 1/2, but it was EASY- no tears, no tantrums, because it was her choice, not ours. We even let her put it in a build a bear so she can always have it.
