X is for X Ray

There are moments we think we're finding our groove, then suddenly we're in the ER looking at this...

Yes, that would be child #1's skull on a CT scan.

We'd had a great afternoon, conquered a walk with the baby bjorn and double stroller, and were back home, of course, to feed Mac.  Kirkley ran to get something out of her backpack, lost her footing on the hardwood floor, and took a major fall.  She cried immediately, snuggled up with me, and when she calmed down started asking me bizarre questions about the day.  I could quickly tell something was off and started quizzing her only to find she remembered nothing about the day.

I whisked everyone out the door to urgent care only to be told to get her to the ER immediately.
The boys went off to mom's, and we headed to the ER.  Kirkley repeatedly asked us the same few questions in the car not remembering at all we'd just talked about them.

We hit the ER, got our CT scan (she was so still and brave!), and were so blessed to find it was only a concussion and not a brain bleed.  And we were sooooo grateful to live in a small town -- our nurse was a friend's sister in law, I'd worked with the doctor's wife during my master's, and the CT scan nurse was in Alex's high school class. God worked out every little detail and our little family was soooo thankful for a clear report!

Major details they kept asking us if you ever find yourself in this situation -- did the child cry immediately, black out, or throw up.  We stayed calm feeling like because she'd cried immediately, it wasn't super serious.  And there was no blacking out or throwing up.

We followed the doctor's orders, hung low the next day, and enjoyed us a tea party!
Kirkley loved making muffins, real tea, and hearing all about our wedding china!

And of course, it was letter X week at school...she was well prepared for share:

"I lift up my eyes to the hills --
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth.
He will not let your foot slip --
He who watches over you will not slumber."
Psalm 121:1-3

oh, Holly - so sorry! We've been through the same thing with our #1, too! It's terrifying! So glad she is ok and it was nothing too serious. I'm sure she loved showing off her x-rays. :)
